I first thought to name them simply "Pizza Donuts"... But what pizza?
You know, I've always asked myself why do all store bought pizza-flavored snacks have the same flavor if there are so many pizza toppings in this world? And they don't even taste like pizza... any pizza!
So, that brings me to the title of this recipe. What pizza do those donuts taste like?
Well, I used most of the "classic" ingredients you would put on a pizza and I got something that is very much alike Capricciosa, but without mushrooms. The donuts came out just perfect! They were soft, juicy, with rich flavor and wonderful aroma. Definitely a must-try and a must-repeat!
And here's the list of ingredients needed to make approx. 15 mini donuts:

- Beat egg until fluffy. Then add yogurt and ketchup.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt and dried herbs in a separate bowl, then gradually stir them into the egg mixture to get a smooth batter without lumps.
- At the end, add cheese and ham and stir lightly. The batter is ready for frying.
- Prepare the oil for frying. See step 3 in this post or step 6 here for some info and hints on how to do it.
- Scoop 1 tablespoon of batter and put carefully into the hot oil. Fry for approx. 1 minute on each side, or until golden brown.
You can serve them plain, but in my opinion, yogurt or mayonnaise are great complements.
The good thing about those donuts is that they are good when cooled as well, which makes them perfect for lunch to go or make-ahead breakfast or snack.
Enjoy and bon appétit!
