Preparing them may take some more time, but you'll adore them so much that you'll forget about everything else!

- 1 egg
- 20 g fresh yeast
- approx. 200 ml milk
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- oil for frying

3. Cover the bowl with some plastic foil or a kitchen towel to prevent drying, and let it stand for approx. 30 minutes, or until it triples its volume. Here you can read about some hints on how to speed up the rising process.
4. Re-knead the dough once it has leavened. Then, lightly sprinkle the work surface with some flour and roll the dough to an approx. 5 mm thickness. Cut as many circular shapes as possible using a suitable cookie cutter, or even simpler, a drinking glass. Don't forget to dip the cutter into flour between cuts.
Arrange the pieces of dough onto a floured surface. You can also arrange them onto a plate, as shown on the photo below, in order to save space, but don't forget to sprinkle some flour onto each layer to prevent sticking!
5. Re-knead the remaining dough, roll it again and cut some more donuts. Repeat this procedure as many times as needed until you spend the entire dough.
By the time you've done this, the donuts you cut at the beginning had already "rested" and are now ready for frying.
I would warmly suggest you use some smaller pan, so that you can spend less oil for frying.
Heat the oil over medium-high fire. Test it by putting a small piece of dough inside: if it sizzles and floats up to the surface right away, the oil has heated enough.
Fry several donuts at a time, as much as you can, until golden-brown. Then, turn them and fry for a few more seconds, until golden-brown on the other side as well. Take them out using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate.
If done well, the donuts should be light when fried (lighter than before frying). If they're heavy, they're probably still raw inside. |
If you wish, you can sprinkle the donuts with some powdered sugar, chocolate or any other sweet sauce, dip them into sugar, or fill them with a stuffing of your choice using a cake icer.
Enjoy and bon appétit!
