Also, beans are on my top 5 list of favorite vegetables, so I am not surprised this dish won me immediately! And if you are like me and use beans mostly in soup or stews (which are great, by the way), this spread will be such a positive surprise. If you want to go even further and make something really unusual, you can try those amazing sweet bean cookies that will blow you away.
I have used the tuna-beans combination before in this wonderful meal salad, and I absolutely loved it, but this spread brings the combo onto a completely new level.
This spread (or dip, as you prefer) looks like some store-bought pate, only much much better. It is so creamy and smooth due to beans, it is super delicious and rich in flavors, can be seasoned to your taste and what is probably most important - it is free of preservatives. And on top of that, it is very simple to make and won't take you more than 10 minutes of your time!
As for the beans, you can use canned ones, leftovers, or cook them specifically for this occasion.
And you will need:
|
|
- Cook the beans if necessary without adding any seasonings. You will need approximately 150 grams of dried beans for this recipe. Drain them well and let cool.
If using canned ones, just drain them. - Slice the onion and cook them shortly on little oil. You don't have to fully cook them.
You can skip this step and use fresh onions, but cooked ones will give the spread even better flavor and aroma.
3. Put drained cooked beans in a blender. Add tuna altogether with the liquid from the can, onions, sliced fresh carrot, garlic and red pepper flakes. Run it until everything is turned into smooth and homogenized mush.
4. Add some salt, pepper and vinegar to taste and blend it for a few more seconds. |
You can use it as spread for sandwiches or canapés, or as a dip with toasted bread, crispy bread sticks, or pieces of fresh vegetables. You can find some delicious and easy bread recipes here.
Enjoy and bon appétit!
