These cookies remind me of my childhood as they were (and still are) one of my favorite. I could eat dozens of them! Happily, my hubby shares the great passion for these cookies, so they're part of our menu very often... You won't regret it if you try them up, I'm sure!
And these are the ingredients you'll need:

Directions:
1. Combine lard and sugar using a hand mixer. Mix until sugar melts. Add egg and milk and mix again until combined.
2. Combine baking powder and half of the flour. Add it to the lard mixture and start kneading. Add the other half of the flour gradually and knead until you get a smooth, unsticky dough that can be rolled out. You may need a bit more or less flour than 1 kg. It all depends on the flour itself.

3. Roll out the dough to 5 mm thickness and cut out as many cookies as you can using cookie cutters by your choice. Place the cookies onto a baking pan (lightly greased or covered with parchment paper).
Re-knead the remaining dough, roll it out again and cut out more cookies. Repeat the procedure as many times as necessary, until you've spent all the dough. You can get up to 100 cookies out of this quantity of ingredients, depending on the cookie cutters size. |
5. Let them cool and serve.
Notes:
- You can use same amount of butter instead of lard, but cookies with lard are much softer and can be served immediately, the same day, while cookies with butter must sit for a day or two to become soft and ready for serving.
- If it's too hot outside and the dough becomes too soft and sticky, just put it into the fridge for 20-30 minutes and it'll be ready for rolling out.
- They remain fresh for up to 10 days if kept in a plastic box at room temperature... And if you don't eat them before that... :) Do not keep them into a fridge as they can become hard.
- Last time I made those cookies we had some kids visiting us, so I played a bit with colors and taste. I divided the basic dough into several pieces, and I added chocolate drink powder into the first, forest fruit drink powder in the second, orange drink powder in the third, some colorful sugar sprinkles into the fourth... They all turned out great and the kids just loved it! You can add anything you want: coconut flakes, dried fruit, extracts and food coloring, chopped chocolate...
