So, today I would like to share with you another recipe for savory cake... A roulade, to be more precise. Hope you like it as much as I do! :)
Unlike the sweet and spicy curry carrot layered cake I posted some time ago, this roulade is much milder and there is no mixed-taste combination. It's savory only, which doesn't mean it's less tasty than the previous one! ;)
I made it recently for a party at our home and I have to be immodest and say it won everybody! So, let's begin!
You will need the following ingredients:

Directions:
1. First prepare the roulade sheet. Beat egg yolks, sour cream and pepper spread using a hand mixer.
I wrote about ajvar, the well-known Balkan red pepper relish here, and about its substitute in this post. However, I would not recommend this substitute for this recipe, as it's too humid and the sheet will turn out too doughy. It's best to use real ajvar. If you, however, can't find any, you can use some red pepper pasta, which is much alike ajvar when it comes to the consistency and thickness.
2. Combine flour and baking powder and add it to the yolks mixture. Combine using a hand mixer on its lowest speed.
3. Beat egg whites and salt until stiff peaks form. Add the foam to the yolks mixture, a spoonful at a time, and combine using a hand mixer on its lowest speed. You will get a thick batter with a lovely orange color.

5. Once you take the roulade sheet out of the oven, remove paper and place the sheet on a kitchen towel. Roll it lengthwise altogether with the towel and let it cool completely in room temperature. This will prevent the sheet from cracking.
6. For the filling, combine cheese, grated boiled eggs and grated ham. The easiest way to do it is to use a hand mixer on lower speed. Add some salt, if necessary and spice with some pepper and dried parsley to taste. |
Enjoy and bon appétit!
