THIS was the first reaction of anyone and THESE are my crazy nest cookies! :)
Some other kids dropped in that day and managed to grab the last few pieces. My happy and glorious moments repeated once again... :)
But there is one more important thing when it comes to these cookies: they're not just colorful and decorative. They taste good as well. They taste amazingly good, if I can be immodest to say! :)
This is simply a must-try recipe and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! You can even include you kids in the preparation and give them double joy - create and eat! :)
So, let's get down to business! Prepare the following ingredients:

Directions:
- Prepare the dough first. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and sugar and then add egg and butter. Use margarine instead of butter for the vegan version. Knead the mixture using your hands or a mixer until it becomes smooth. Wrap it with some plastic foil and put in the fridge for about half an hour to tight a bit.
- Prepare the baking pan. Put some parchment paper on it. Preheat oven at 200 degrees.
- In this step you will need a garlic squeezer (a garlic press) to shape the cookies. Fill up the press with some dough and squeeze it in a pile on the parchment paper. You can make the cookies as big as you want. I squeezed two full presses for one cookie and got 20 pieces.
- After you've spent all the dough, you should actually make those piles of dough look like nests. :) Lightly press each pile using your fingers to make a hollow in each of them. So, make a hollow, not a hole! You don't want your birds to lose their eggs! :) See the photos below to see how it should look like...
6. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate with the oil and fill up the hollow of each baked nest. And here comes the moment when you can give you kids some entertainment: let them put some chocolate candies (I mean, "eggs") in each nest while the filling is still warm and liquid (so that candies can stick and do not fall later).
7. Let the cookies cool a bit (if you can wait "that long") and enjoy!
Bon appétit! NOTES: - Instead of melted chocolate with oil for the filling, you can also use some lightly heated chocolate spread (ex: Nutella or similar, even with taste other than chocolate), or some lightly heated fruit jam. I say lightly heated, as they need to be more liquid than they usually are so you can fill the nests more easily. |
