The cake includes two soft sheets with only one different ingredient, but yet completely distinctive flavor, and a middle brownie-like sheet, all merged with contrasting white creamy filling.
And this is the list of the ingredients you'll need:
for the 1st cake sheet:
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 150 g sour cream
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 5 tablespoons minced walnuts
for the 2nd cake sheet:
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 150 g sour cream
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 5 tablespoons poppy seed
for the 3rd cake sheet
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 150 g sour cream
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 5 tablespoons milk
for the cream:
- 1 l milk
- 150 g sugar
- 10 tablespoons semolina
- 200 g butter (softened)
- 100 g white chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Directions:

Combine flour, baking powder and walnuts and stir into the egg mixture. Make sure there are no lumps.
Cover the baking pan with some parchment paper. You will need a pan which is approx. 30x20cm. Pour the batter in and bake into a preheated oven at 180°C for approx. 10 minutes.
This is how the walnut cake sheet looks like before and after baking:

Combine flour, baking powder and cocoa powder and add it to the egg mixture. Note that this batter will be quite thicker than the previous two, almost with a sticky dough consistency, so you may need some help for spreading it into the pan. Use the back of a wet spoon to spread it evenly.
Bake at 180°C for approx. 6-7 minutes. Try not to overbake this sheet, as it will be too dry eventually.
5. Now that you have made all three cake sheets, let's come back to the filling.
Beat butter until light and fluffy. Add cooled semolina cream and combine it, using a hand mixer, until homogenized. At the end, add vanilla extract, if using any, and combine once again. The filling is ready. Before you proceed, leave 3 tablespoons of the filling aside. You'll need them at the end. This is how the filling looks like... |

6. Now, it's time to assemble the cake. Take a convenient plate and start layering it by the following order:
- poppy seed cake sheet
- spread half of the filling
- brownie-like cake sheet
- spread the rest of the filling
- walnuts cake sheet
- cover the top of the cake with the filling you set aside (step 5)
You can finish decorating the cake as you desire. You have a wide range of toppings when it comes to this cake, as it's firm and can hold anything. Use some whipped cream, butter cream, your favorite icing, or a fondant. In my case, it was a simple decoration of whipped cream sprinkled with some grated chocolate.
Hope you like it!
Enjoy and bon appétit!
